KTM 1290 Super Duke RR: In Images

Image
An all-new Bike or a minor update? KTM just unveiled its meanest, most epensive Duke till date, the KTM 1290 Super Duke RR. It has been through reworked for 2021 with lighter bodywork and engine components, resulting in a 9kg weight reduction. But how does this contribute to the biker's performance? It may be powered by the same 1301cc LC8 75degree V-twin dishing 182PS and 140Nm, but the extreme weight loss means it weighs in at just 180kg kerb. Thanks to this, the bike now boasts a 1:1 power-to-weight  ratio. It retains the same 6speed transmission with a bi-directional quickshifter. The way the power is delivered has also been improved. For this, KTM has wquipped the Super Duke with a new quick throttle with a 65-degree opening angle-- a 7-degree reduction over the standard KTM 1290 Super Duke R. When you think of weight saving, you think of carbon fibre, and the 1290 has loads of it. This comprises a carbon undertray, rear cowl, and even front brake cooling ducts. Even th...

What is RPM in Bike Engines And How It Works?

About RPM In Bikes And How It Works? Bikes that have an engine that is more than 150cc comprises of a tachometer. Its primary function is to display the RPM of the engine. We would have witnessed that fluctuation of this RPM based on the changing of gears. But do we know its importance or the impact that it creates on the bike? Hence, let's take a closer look at what it is all about and its functionality. What is RPM in bike? The full form of RPM stands for "revolution/rotations per minute. "It signifies the speed at which the rotation of the crank in the engine takes place - resulting in the deliverability of the power to the rear wheels via a gearbox. Every rotation of the crank results in the movement of the gear box such that it translates to the speed of the engine. The higher the RPM, the more significant is the speed of the bike, in turn, more significant is the fuel consumption as well. Its not that when the changing of the gears occurs, the speed of the bike inc...

Motorcycle Tyre

Image
About Motorcycle Tyre Motorcycle tyres (tires in American English) are the outer part of motorcycle  wheels, attached to the rims, providing traction, resisting wear, absorbing surface irregularities, and allowing the motorcycle to turn via countersteering. The two tyres' contact patches are the motorcycle's connecting to the ground, and so are fundamental to the motorcycle's suspension behaviour, and critically affect safety, braking, fuel economy, noise and rider comfort. History About Motorcycle Tyres The history of motorcycle tyres is a clear progression of steady improvement of steady improvement in grip, allowing better acceleration, braking, and turning, along with improved comfort, safety, durability, and reliability. This progression has generally meant a steady increase in tyre width, so much so that Kevin Cameron noted the assumption among riders that "bigger must be better in every way", leading to, "the tempetation to overwhelm motorcycles with t...

Evolution Of Motrcycles - Why Are Motorcycles Exhausts Commonly Placed On The Right Side?

Image
Every inquistive mind would have at some point questioned the poistioning of motorcycle exhausts. Why does almost every motorcycle have its exhaust placed on the right, and not the left? Well, there is no right or wrong answer to this. However, answers like, pedestrian sidewalks are on the left, there is a chain sprocket on the left, spacing issue, etc, do not make enough sense. Kawasaki h2 What does make sense is that, manufacturers have just stuck to the design that was implemented on the very first internal combustion-powered, single-cylinder motorcycles. The evolution of motorcycles with respect to exhaust is a story in itself. Underbelly Exhaust: The very first internal combustion-powered mototrcycles could not rely on just the engine for its power. Hence, to get it going from zero, they were equipped with pedals. The rider pedalled the motorcycle off the line, and at higher speeds, the motor would take over propulsion. In this scenario, the engineers had no other option but ...
